Small Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans come in an extremely wide range of styles and designs, as well as sizes. It’s highly unlikely that you won’t be able to find a ceiling fan that’s just perfect for your room size and style – even if it’s something from the range of small ceiling fans.

The size of a ceiling fan is actually the blade sweep which is measured from the start of the blade to its tip. To check what size of small ceiling fans you need for your room, you need to know how big your room is in square feet.

Large rooms over 225 square feet (or approximately 15′ x 15′ or greater) need a large fan from 52″ sweep and upwards.

Small ceiling fans would be perfect for rooms 10 foot square or less. A small fan would be classed as anything from 48 inch and down. Obviously the smaller your room, the smaller the fan you will need. Too large a fan could cause too much draft even on a low setting which would ultimately mean you won’t have the fan on at all, which defeats the object altogether.

Even with a small fan, it’s a lot cheaper to run an efficient modern ceiling fan than it is to run an air conditioning unit. Even when the temperature soars, a good ceiling fan will keep the air moving and circulating round the house regardless of it’s size.

By adding even a small ceiling fan to the main rooms in your house, you can reduce the amount of energy your home uses for heating and cooling. The fans will help circulate the air all through the house, which means cooler living conditions during the hotter months, and a warmer environment when it’s colder.

A lot of small ceiling fans are also available as low profile ceiling fans or flush mounted, which means they don’t have the drop rod which supports and connects the fan to the mounting. These are ideal for low ceilings, which are generally part and parcel of small rooms.

Most small ceiling fans are designed as 3 or 4 blade fans, mainly because a small room doesn’t need to same amount of CFM (cubic feet per minute) of air movement as a large room does. A lot of children’s ceiling fans are also in the small range, to restrict the amount of draft and air flow.
