The new Candelier range of Casablanca ceiling fans really took my eye when I was browsing their site recently. It’s like a ceiling fan with a whole selection of candle like lights around a wooden case. Not quite sure if I would like it my house, but a neat design none the less.

Why should you buy a Casablanca ceiling fan? Well, apart from the design ranges and quality of manufacture, a ceiling fan is a great way to improve the efficiency of your home. Casablanca have created a range of ceiling fans that work to reduce the amount of energy required to operate over less efficient fans. While the motors in all Casablanca ceiling fans are more powerful than normal, it means they have a higher CFM rating (the amount of cubic feet per minute of air they can circulate), but still use a lot less electricity. For this reason a high percentage of Casablanca ceiling fans are Energy Star certified.

In general, an Energy Star rated ceiling fan can circulate the air in a room about 20 percent more efficiently than a non rated fan, and are up to 50 percent more energy efficient when used in conjunction with Energy Start rated ceiling fan light kits.

Casablanca ceiling fans are purposely designed to cool people – not rooms. In warm weather conditions, with the fan set to “normal”, the fan will create a “wind chill” effect by circulating the air in a room, and can help you feel up to 8 degrees cooler.

In the colder months, the fan should be set in “reverse” which will create a gentle up draught. This helps move the warm air that is normally trapped near the ceiling and provides a more stable and comfortable temperature in the room – and will also mean you can reduce the thermostat setting on the heating system, saving you even more energy and money.

Selecting the right Casablanca ceiling fans for your room is all down to the actual room size where you will be installing it. If you room is greater than 225 square feet, you need to opt for a fan with a blade span of between 50 and 56 inches. Obviously the bigger you room is over the 225 feet, the larger then fan you select. For rooms up to 145 square feet, go for a fan with blade spans of between 40 and 44 inch.
